Amazon EC2 C8gn Instances Expand to Milan and Hong Kong with Enhanced Performance

Amazon EC2 C8gn instances powered by AWS Graviton4 processors became available in new regions, providing significant compute and networking performance gains.

AI-ASSISTED REPORTING · RETROSPECTIVE ARCHIVE

Retrospective edition: 2026-04-28. Source published: 2026-04-28. Added to this archive: 2026-11-03. This briefing was prepared later from the linked announcement; it was not published on this website on the historical edition date.

Amazon expanded availability of EC2 C8gn instances, built on AWS's latest Graviton4 processors, to Europe (Milan) and Asia Pacific (Hong Kong). These instances deliver up to 30% better compute performance versus the previous Graviton3-based C7gn instances. Featuring 6th generation AWS Nitro Cards, they support up to 600 Gbps network bandwidth—the highest among EC2 network-optimized instances.

Additionally, C8gn supports large instance sizes up to 48xlarge with 384 GiB memory and 120 Gbps EBS bandwidth. Selected sizes enable Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) networking for low-latency, high-performance tightly coupled clusters. The instances cater to network-intensive workloads like virtual appliances, data analytics, and AI/ML inference.
